Joanneke Meester
Visual artist Joanneke Meester, also known as #Trash_Healer, uses her artworks to reflect deeply on human consciousness and our relationship with the environment.
A central theme in her work is the malleability of humanity.
Joanneke Meester is primarily active in public spaces, where she places custom yellow traffic signs. These signs bear handcrafted texts and form a unique connection with the location where they are placed, challenging the emotions and thoughts of passersby.
In Amsterdam, she carries out her ongoing project ‘Your Trash is My Treasure.’ Here, she creates temporary assemblages of discarded objects and materials found on the streets, scattered throughout the city. This project began during the Covid-19 pandemic from the artist’s residency ‘BijlmAir’ in the Bijlmer.
Each ’trash’ assemblage has a unique story to tell, and together, they form a growing response to our consumer society.
You can follow the process and results of ‘Your Trash is My Treasure’ on her Instagram and Facebook accounts.
