Maria Timmermans
Maria Timmermans explores the ways in which objects form relationships with one another. She finds the friction that arises in these relationships fascinating. In the rubbing and chafing between the objects, she tries to find a balance. She prefers to work with objects that resist her; ones she can only move with effort. That resistance makes the relationship tangible.
Maria Timmermans has to listen to the material. What does it want? Where does it want to go? The objects she uses are found materials, discarded items. Ideally, she would want to know where each one comes from, and what kind of life it has lived.
Additionally, her work is about the personal relationship she has with the material, the care she gives it, and the unwillingness to say goodbye.
