Augustiana Art Residency, Open Studios, Workshops, and Exhibition
Augustiana Museum and Sculpture Park, Denmark
Starting on September 15, 2024, Augustiana welcomed fifteen artists from Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands for an inspiring residency. Set against the stunning backdrop of Augustiana’s sculpture park and historic palace grounds, the residency focused on the theme of transformation, with artists working exclusively with discarded objects and materials collected by local residents.
Participating Artists:
Denmark: Simon Gorm Andersen, Marie J. Engelsvold, Iris Elfa Fridriksdottir, Jens Chr. Jensen
Germany: Faller und Budasz (duo), Pannas and Tulip (duo)
Netherlands: Petra van Aken, Mirjam Berloth, Ronald de Ceuster, Marjolein Knottenbelt, Joanneke Meester, Lisbeth Parisius, HF van Steensel
Throughout the residency, the artists lived and worked within the Augustiana Mansion and its surrounding buildings. Their studios were open to the public whenever Augustiana was open, offering visitors the chance to see the artists at work and learn more about their projects. In addition, the artists organized a variety of workshops for children and adults, allowing the community to engage creatively and learn new skills.
Event Highlights:
- Residency & Open Studios: September 15–30, 2024
- Public Programs: Saturdays, September 21 and 28, from 2–4 pm, featuring workshops and live performances
- Exhibition in the White Palace: September 20–October 20, 2024
The event concluded with an exhibition in the historic White Palace, showcasing works created during the residency. The exhibition explored themes of reuse, sustainability, and artistic reinvention. This program at Augustiana offered an inspiring blend of art, nature, and community engagement in one of Denmark’s most beautiful cultural settings.
This project was made possible with funding from Sønderborg Kommune and Culture Moves Europe, a program funded by the European Union and the Goethe-Institute.
