AKMAR
AKMAR is a multidisciplinary artist who works in various disciplines, including video, computer-generated work, and physical sculptures. The installation Vanitas explores digital impermanence and references still lifes from the 16th century. In these paintings, flowers always bloom simultaneously, although in reality, they never do. AKMAR’s installation brings together digital flowers created using different computer programmes, representing different computer eras. The oldest flowers date back to 1991, when Windows 3.1 was the operating system.
“My work is multidisciplinary, ranging from computer-generated videos to physical sculptures, with a special interest in site-specific interventions. The common question is, ‘What is reality?’ Perception is not straightforward; it is a combination of various materials that change over time.
Matter can take on different forms over time or through actions. I investigate these various forms to discover what it means for matter to have no function other than to be itself. What does that self look like?” Vanitas 2022
