The beauty of waste material

The beauty of waste material

Jørgen Carlo Larsen

Jørgen Carlo Larsen works and lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a sculptor, educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1985-91.

Since then, he has worked broadly with visual art, including installation, sculpture, painting, collage, and more. He was also a co-founder of the artist-run exhibition spaces TAPKO and Skulpturi.dk.

Opposites of various kinds often appear in his works. This could be the meeting between a concrete/abstract visual language and found elements from a more folk culture, objects with their own history. Or sculptural episodes from a “normal everyday life.” A leveling of episodes and materials, ranging from the simple to the exclusive. Thus, “abstract art” might appear alongside handicrafts and becoming a product in itself. Old culture/new reality. Art/non-art. Art/fashion, and so on. Personal experiences are mixed with those of others and built upon from there. A collection of individual parts that, in various ways, contain information about both the past and the present, and through an artistic composition, hold traces that can point towards possible alternative realizations.
